Set two decades after the events of the highly acclaimed 2002 film, this six-episode series follows the lives of residents in Rio de Janeiro's City of God. As the series begins, the notorious favela is trapped in a bitter dispute between rival drug dealers and the paramilitary police, who have been occupying nearby areas and threaten to enter the COG. As violence erupts in the streets, self-serving politicians and businesspeople hoping to profit off drugs and weapons flowing into the area conspire to fan the flames of the conflict. But when a beloved member of the community is killed in the crossfire, the City of God comes together to unite around a vocal new leader, who vows to stand up to corruption and keep their community safe.
